Prayers for flood victims

Published: 23 November 2009

Dear Friends,

Thank you for all your messages and phone calls of support for the people of Cockermouth and Workington who have been so badly affected by the floods of last week.

In conversations we have had with friends in these areas their message is very much the same:

Thank you for all the love and prayers you are showing. Please continue to keep the people of Cockermouth, Workingon, Keswick and surrounding area in your prayers - especially those who are, as yet, unable to return home. And for those who have no insurance - their homes having been flooded before they were told by different insurance companies that their excess would range from £1,000 - £18,000, so they did not take up insurance, and many of them now have lost everything.
They are in good heart. They have clothes and toys for the children in abundance - at the moment. Christmas will be a very different time for them.

The Reception Centre numbers are slowly going down - from over 100+ down to 38 as of this morning. The concern is no one knows the numbers of those being cared for by family members, and the added stress this may cause if the situation is long term. Please pray for all affected.

Your prayers are also asked for Cockermouth's main employer: James Walker - business has been transferred to other areas - will the work ever come back?

Prayers are also asked for commonsense to prevail amongst those who are ministering to the people affected - to remember self - don't try to do everything - rest is needed to be taken by everyone - emergency crews, priests, fire, police, doctors, nurses and carers, hotel staff, army and all who are helping

Please thank your members for their prayer support and encourage them to keep on praying.
